Well Intentioned Man Wishes Hindu Coworker a “Happy Eid Mubarak”

Garrett Fryland was brimming with excitement as he walked into work Thursday morning. Earlier that day, he had been scrolling through his MSN homepage and saw that it was a Muslim holiday called Eid al-Adha, the “Festival of the Sacrifice”. Priding himself on being culturally aware, he immediately made a mental note to wish his coworker, Dev Sharma, a happy Eid, completely unaware of the fact that Dev was Hindu and not Muslim.

Sure enough, as soon as Garrett stepped off the elevator, he spotted Dev in the break room and beelined towards him. “Happy Eid Mubarak Dev!” he said, waiting for his reaction. Dev, tired after having four other coworkers come up to him to wish a “Happy Eid”,  just nodded and said thanks. After receiving affirmation that he was a good person, Garrett went on his merry way.
